Polyethylene is a plastic which is generally used as films and sheets in packaging due to its good chemical resistance, transparency, flexibility, etc. Plastics are the materials which can be reshaped easily by applying heat and pressure. Polythene is a plastic, but all plastics are not polythene.

It's an incredibly versatile product used in a wide range of applications. Polythene is almost completely waterproof, though it will allow oxygen, carbon dioxide and flavourings to pass through it.

Polyethylene sheeting has many names. It goes by the names visqueen, poly sheeting, plastic sheeting, plastic film, polyethylene sheet, and poly film to name a few. Polyethylene sheeting is a plastic film made from petroleum.

The process of making polyethylene film is called extrusion. This plastic film manufacturing process begins with the melting of small plastic granules (called resin), until they become fused and malleable.
